Interesting points and welcome aboard! One thing I hate to see is when reviewers review games in genres they aren’t familiar with for an audience that isn’t interested in the title. IGN’s review of Myst DS is horrible, for example.
Sadly, ratings systems work in that having one gets you more readers. I used to just write opinion reviews of movies on my site, but once I introduced my one to thirteen rating scale, I got more readers. People like to having things wrapped up nice for them.
The joke is on them though, because I think I’ve only given a less than 7 review once… every movie, and by extension every game, is worth playing to someone. The key is in understanding if you are that someone. Managing expectations is, in my opinion, the single most important element when approaching… well… anything.

Aww! Yes, I agree completely.
So many people out there decide not to play a game just because it did not get a good rating. You will never know unless you try it out for yourself…
